Week 6

Power rankings

  1. ICC
  2. Kensington
  3. UMBC
  4. Sixers
  5. Potomac
  6. Urbana

Since all but one game was washed out, the power rankings remain relatively the same. Only change is UMBC takes place of Sixers as there was a result in this game. It looks like 4 teams are vying for the coveted top finish in D1. This could change to 5 teams if rumors about Potomac reinforcements (Ranji level players) are accurate. Games between these top 4-5 teams will be highly interesting and the winner would have earned their way to the automatic promotion. I think the team that has had the most fortune amongst these top teams is ICC. First it was lucky to win the game vs Pakistan when it was in a losing position but rain helped their cause. Then their game against Potomac got rained out when Potomac was rumored to be bringing in quality players. Can ICC take advantage of their fortune and earn the top seed in the D1 rankings? Only time will tell. There are lots of games left to be played and fortunes can turn between now and then.

Before I move on to the picks I was wondering if Potomac really needs that many Ranji players to win division 1? To each their own but I must say that Potomac will be the favorites this year if these players do come and play. We will have to wait and watch for that.

Weekly picks

CCC Vs. Star

While Star will miss DeeJay a lot (not really πŸ˜‰ ), I believe they re one team that is definitely trending upwards. Ironically, CCC is really struggling this year and need to turn around big time to keep their playoff hopes alive. The game is at Hyatsville and for some reason, I have a feeling Sameera and the boys will gut out an upset this weekend.

Players to watch: Harshan Yakeem, Aamir Khan.

Pick: CCC.

Sixers vs. Falcons

Game of the week: Sixers captain wrote a long paragraph on FB explaining why they lost to UMBC last week. To me it sounded like a crying baby whose doll got taken away and did not know what to do with it. I am sure he has his troops ready and craving to do some β€˜ tha tha tha’ on Falcons. Falcons have been a letdown team this year. They have very good bowling attack, but it seems the batting is letting them down. The game is at Metro, so I expect the game to be a low scoring one. Falcons need to bat first and try to score 150 plus to give their bowlers a chance. However, I think Sixers will take this one in a close one.

Players to watch: Ahsan Rasheed, Bobby Pedireddy

Pick: Sixers

Taurids vs. Urbana

This is a very good game this week. Taurids has been very close to upsetting big teams, but somehow lacking the killer instinct. Urbana has been really good at their home ground, but playing in Fairfax will be a challenge. However, I think since its Astro turf, Urbana will take this one.

Players to watch: Tushar Irani

Pick: Urbana

Elite vs. Kensington

I think Kensington is looked really poised to finish top 3. Meanwhile, Elite is still day dreaming about something no one knows. This should not even be a close one, as Kensington should win this one easily.

Players to watch: Marvin Darlington, Amir Chaudhary

Pick: Kensington

Fairfax vs. ICC

Another easy game on paper for ICC. Since Usman Bajwa is not available this week, it will be interesting to see who fills in his shoes. George Mathias and the Fairfax team should really take this game as a challenge. I believe if Fairfax bats first and score 170 plus on ICC, chasing could get tricky for Kushal and the boys. However, I still think ICC should win this one comfortably.

Players to watch: Sabin Sundar

Pick: ICC

Potomac vs. Metro

This game should be called off. It could break records. Potomac, expected to carry Ranji players this week, take on Metro that is already looking towards 2016 season in division 2. I really hope Metro bats first so the game ends quickly; else Metro will have a lot of leather chasing to do all day.

Players to watch: Ravi Inder Singh, Ryan Sooklal

Pick: Potomac

UMBC vs. Pakistan

Last week, UMBC won a key game against Sixers to stay in contention for the top spot. Pakistan on the other hand has been hot and cold. Pakistan does have the bowling to rip through UMBC middle order batting. However, I think UMBC has got the mojo going now, and I expect them to ride that mojo and win this one.

Players to watch: Faraz Riaz, Shahid Hanif

Pick: UMBC
