Pick:

Dulles

Kensington

Hyattsville

Dulles: Dulles is hot right now. They are coming together very well and even though its early in the season, Dulles has made a strong statement. WCL T20 has a cut throat format and one loss here or there can make a difference between a championship year or just another year. Kensington on the other hand is rebuilding after re-entering the Premier Division. But, they do have explosive cricketers that almost won it for them against Zolon last week. Close game but Dulles is just too well rounded in T20 format. They should come on top. Explosive top order batting and quality and versatility in bowling should do the trick for Dulles CC

UMBC

Tigers

Woodmor

Tigers: UMBC might have overcome AFCA last week but Tigers CC is a whole different animal. These guys play quality cricket with a core group of guys even early on in the season. Tigers are coming off a close loss to Titans and will come out all guns (read: Imran Awan) blazing at UMBC. In WCL T20 it is vital to get some early season wins to potentially land a bye in the next round. Tigers would hope to get it this year. UMBC is a tough side to beat but Tigers has a better bowling attack and therefore a better chance of winning this one.

Cosmos

Zolon

Fairfax

Zolon: Time for an early season prediction. Zolon is a contender for the championship this year (along with Titans). They absolutely demolished Vikings last week and while most of Vikings’ batters lost their wickets playing rash shots, it was the continued pressure of Zolon bowling that forced them to play them. Zolon then proceeded to unleash a solid opening duo and eventually won the game without needing the mercurial Raghav or Fahad or Anurag. Cosmos too is off to a good start after defeating Nitro last week and they are in with a chance on the new Fairfax pitch but Zolon is a powerhouse in WCL. They’d take it.

Titans

Boyds

Veterans

Titans: Is this Titans’ year? Quietly the diplomat AKA shoaib has made this team into a serious contender for the championship this year. An airport pickup here a ‘discussion’ over chicken karahi there, and now Titans have a SOLID batting line up. They’ve quality spinners as well to put the brakes on scoring. WCL’s Gilchrist AKA Saqib might come unto his own in this one. Boyds would welcome back Ankit for this game but they will find it tough against a superior Titan’ batting line up. On a fast outfield with a batting pitch for the batsmen to feast on, Titans should take this. How often do you get to rate the mighty Boyds’ batting line up as second best? This is one of those occasions.

Nitro

Titans

Veterans

Titans: Titans get another game at Veterans. Titans should win another game at Veterans. This side is loaded with star power and the scary part is that most of them have not been mentioned this year. Nitro is a very talented side and blew their chance of starting off on a winning note against Cosmos last week. Unfortunately they are going to run into the mighty Titans (some call them ‘tiny’ Titans :-> — what? ) and would find it tough to contain their batting. Titans 2-0 for the weekend.

Virginia

Vikings

Hyattsville

Vikings: Vikings is off to a disastrous start. Oh but wait, so is Virginia. It’s early on in the season and this is the first time these 2 sides are going to meet after the highly entertaining and high scoring premier division championship game (NOT!). Vikings are hungry for success, wait, so is Virginia CC. This is the game played between the bottom ranked sides (infact in one unofficial power ranking, Vikings and Virginia didn’t even register!). Virginia is a talented side and will certainly pose a challenge with the likes of Naseer and Ani and Wali but Vikings have been humiliated and insulted way too much (by each other) to not put up a good show. This would be an interesting game to monitor but Vikings should prevail if only barely.

Tigers

Boyds

Soccerplex

Tigers: Boyds are strong at Soccerplex but Tigers is strong everywhere. Judging by last week’s game at Soccerplex, the game didn’t prove to be a high scoring one because the ball stopped a little on the pitch and the outfield was very heavy. Boyds will find it hard to handle Tiger’s bowling attack here. Ankit won’t be available for Boyds so they will be a little short on batting as well and might find it hard to handle Tigers.

Empire

Dulles

Veterans

Dulles: Dulles seems to be involved in all the crunch games this year. More often than naught, this team has come out victorious. They didn’t just become the T20 champions for no reason. Empire has been the red hot team in the night tournament but this is my somewhat-kinda-sorta upset prediction of the year. Dulles will conquer the Empire at Veterans this week.

AFCA

Kensington

Veterans

Kensington: The tough year for AFCA will continue this week. Kensington might be rebuilding but they should be able to overcome an indifferent bowling attack from AFCA. Mind you AFCA is a decent batting unit and on their day, they can cause some upsets. This week though, is not one of those weeks.
