All the teams must be pumped up to play some cricket after almost 3 weeks of non-activity in the league. There are some interesting matchups this weekend.

AFCA vs Dulles @ Kenmore on 07/11

Dulles start as overwhelming favorites for this game. AFCA would like to start afresh and put up a competitive performance. This is a ground where there is no home advantage for either teams. Dulles are riding high on the back of 2 fine victories against better sides. AFCA will have to put together a stronger batting performance to win. Dulles appear to be have the balance with both ball and bat and should win this one. AFCA has to put runs on the board and then get Juicy out cheaply to win.

Boyds vs Tigers @ Strawberry on 07/11

Tigers are most definitely better matched than boyds and also seem to be playing good cricket. Dawood has announced a couple of key acquisitions to the Tigers roster but we wont know if they will take the field this weekend until gameday. If they do, this Tigers team will be loaded. Boyds seem to have beefed up their team with Shan and hopefully Ankit will play as well but will be sorely missing Adil, their chief run getter this season. I feel they were lacking a quick bowler with the ability to hassle a batsman with pace and Shan can certainly do that. The ground conditions will neutralize Tiger’s spinners to an extent and I hope the Boyds batsmen can capitalize on this. If tigers bat first, they will win easily. Boyds have a chance if they bat first and put more than 200 on the board and attack Tigers’s batting which has been weak this season barring Charan and Imran who have been the only guys consistently putting runs on the board. I pick tigers to win but Boyds will make it an interesting game at strawberry.

Virginia vs Srilankan @ Williamwirt on 07/11

This should be an easy win for VCC but they will expect their batsmen to fire against the Srilankans to get the much-needed confidence before playing tougher opposition later in the season. Srilankans hope they get to bat first and put a decent total on board to put some sort of pressure on the VCC batting which has been very inconsistent. I pick VCC to win this one but if Srilankans set up a total > 175, this one will be a very interesting game.

Zolon vs Jamaica @ Williamwirt on 07/12

The Revenge match!!! I don’t understand why the first match up between these teams is still under review after almost 1.5 months. Jamaica seems to have made a couple of key acquisitions and that will make this game competitive. Zolon will have a strong squad and wouldn’t want to take any chances with this game. I am sure the teams will look to get 2 umpires for this game and hopefully the league assigns the right umpires who will be able to control the game. Spin will play a role in this game and I believe this is an area of weakness for Zolon unless they bring in talent from outside. I am picking Zolon to win a close game.

Vikings vs Cosmos @ Galwaypark on 07/12

Vikings desperately need a win – Cosmos are on a high with successive wins and most importantly some good performances. Vikings know they have a chance in this game if they bat decently. Cosmos do have some kinks in their batting and only Raviteja has been a consistent performer with Pradeep scoring a couple of 50’s. The rest of the cast haven’t done much consistently. Vikings should take heart from this and should attack these 2 batsmen – Have aggressive fields with men in catching positions and force them to take risks. On the batting side, I have already said that their key batsmen have to occupy the crease, the shots will flow after some time. This is my game of the week because I feel the 3 week break works for Vikings coz they can start pretty much with a clean slate. I expect Vikings to surprise Cosmos in this one. I feel their batsmen will finally start making runs from this game onwards. I am just taking a wild guess  😉  on this one.
